Affordable housing is possible

ADUs make our community stronger.

Pocket Housing is dedicated to helping homeowners and jurisdictions understand the benefits and challenges of ADU development. ADUs present a tremendous opportunity to increase housing equity and community resiliancy in ways that minimize environmental impacts and community character.

“I have already recommended your program to every one I know who may have interest in or questions about ADUs.”

Hi, I’m Scott Johnson.

I have more than 18 years of experience in project management and urban planning. I have worked statewide for public agencies, private clients, and non-profits on environmental studies, urban infill and equitable housing projects. My efforts in policy and planning work is grounded in my early experiences in construction.

From large scale environmental studies, to individual ADUs and homeowner engagement I take a holistic view towards implementing housing for all. In recent years I have focused on the concrete implementation of ADU development, from working with non-profits to entitle and install ADUs for house wildfire survivors, to working with groups at the state level to help adjust policy and legislation to remove barriers and increase public understanding of the opportunities and the process of small-scale development.

I’m a Bay Area native but enjoy traveling around California and the West Coast to experience all that this magical area of the world has to offer. Prior to starting Pocket Housing, I was a partner in a design-build firm focused on infill and ADU development. In my current role, I enjoy being the Executive Director for the the ADU Center and working with homeowners on personalized feasibility studies and helping educate them about the opportunities and challenges of ADU development. I am always looking for ways to help ease the process and encourage more homeowners into exploring how an ADU may work for them.
